Travels With Heart: By Annie Bowler, Vol 15, June 1, 2024
Hello Friends,
I don’t know about you, but June is one of my favorite months as it brings graduations and many well-deserved end of year celebrations. And then, all goes quiet, and I finally have time to put my feet up, relax a bit and take stock of what lies ahead. I hope you enjoy reading about a few of our June adventures.

Fabulous Food and Drink
In early June John and I attended a fun farm to fork dinner hosted by Alibi Ale Works and the Tahoe Food Hub in Truckee. All five delicious courses were paired with an Alibi beer.
One of the beers served was a “Witbier with Lemons and Rosemary;” Alibi used Flower
Farm’s Meyer Lemons to produce this beer, which has a bright, refreshing taste. It was a
delightful evening, full of interesting conversations, fine food and drink.
The Tahoe Food Hub purchased more than 10,000 pounds of Flower Farm’s citrus this
season, which was utilized through their produce box program, in Tahoe-Truckee schools’
lunches, and sold in their Truckee storefront. The Tahoe Food Hub buys produce from many small Placer County farms, bringing locally grown produce to a region that is too cold for much successful ag. The people that run the Tahoe Food Hub are wonderful folks who are committed to changing the way we eat. You can learn more about them here.
I had never been to Alibi Ale Works before the other night. I was impressed by its
enthusiastic staff and it’s large, comfortable indoor and outdoor dining spaces. Though their normal fare isn’t as fancy as what we were served, their broad menu offers something for everybody, and their beer is great. Learn more by clicking here .

Local Art News
We recently hosted a show of John’s artwork at our house that served as a fundraiser for
the Placer Artists Tour Endowment Fund. Our house was filled with John’s drawings, paintings, and sculptures; many friends and folks we didn’t know came out to enjoy John’s work and to support this worthy cause. The evening was quite busy, so these photos don’t reflect the size of the crowd or variety of the artwork that was on display. We are grateful to all those who came out and supported this wonderful cultural organization, but especially to the amazing volunteers who put the event together!
What is the Placer Artists Tour Endowment Fund? The fund will ensure that the Placer
Artists Tour will continue for generations and that mentoring of artists and assisting in their professional development will continue. The tour makes an important contribution to the economy and cultural vitality of Placer County. Learn more here

But now it’s time to relax and celebrate.
Reunion Time
Last week was packed with fabulous family time at a reunion of the Martin clan; my side of the family huge, loving, and sometimes crazy. It had been too long since we’d all been
together; a fine time was had by all!
