A Bit of History

THE FLOWER FARM WAS ESTABLISHED in 1905 by J.H. Nixon and his Family. The Nixons built what is now the main house of the Flower Farm Inn. They planted thirty acres of plums on the property. The land has been farmed continuously ever since. Sheep and cattle have grazed the land. the Leonard family purchased the property in 1993. They established both the Bed and Breakfast and the Nursery.  The delightful Flower, Sweet Dreams Coreopsis, was discovered at the Flower Farm.

The Flower Farm Today

THE BOWLER FAMILY PURCHASED THE FLOWER FARM IN 2004. They did additional renovations to the farmhouse, added guest cottages and converted the barn into a lovely facility for weddings and other special events. Their longtime friends, Rich and Sheri Fischer and Patti Foust, developed the Flower Farm Nursery and Coffee House to the fine destination that it is today. The Flower Farm is now home to seven acres of mandarins, a wide range of fruit trees, large vegetable gardens and a cutting flower bed.

WE HOPE THAT OUR GUESTS will experience the many beauties of farm life. We invite you to stroll our orchards and gardens, study our plants, enjoy our chickens and wildlife. We hope the Flower Farm will help you to celebrate life to its fullest!

WE, AT THE FLOWER FARM, ARE COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT. Toward that end, much of our electricity comes from our solar panels. We practice envirnmentaly friendly farming methods. We recycle and compost daily. We support Placer Grown agriculture by using fruits, vegetables and eggs that we or nearby farms produce. Our nursery was selected as a retailer for UC Davis Arboretum All-Stars 100 tough, drought tolerant yet beautiful plants. We host yoga, gardening and cooking classes that are fun, helpful and educational. Classes include:  "Water-Wise Gardening" and "In-Season Cooking," based on the cookbook, Placer County Real Food.
